An Early Christmas for a Boy! (or birthday)
I remembered a bedtime story that was told by a boy, who desperately wanted to make me sleep. The story went like this and I would translated it to English:
“There was a boy named Shaun. He had a sheep of whom he loved so much. One day he lost his sheep, so he went all over the town looking for his sheep. On his way, he found a tortoise. He picked the tortoise up and brought it home. He showed it to his mother but she scolded him and told him to put it back where he got it. He was sad but he went back to the path where he found the tortoise and put it back. The end.”
This story was told by my beloved husband, no matter how old he would be, he would still be a boy at heart. He adores tortoises very much, hence the inspiration in the story. What else does he like? None other than mechanical ‘man’ toys – Transformers, Zoids, Robotech… the list goes on, his collection of robots is waaaaay bigger than all of my shoes put together! His birthday falls on Boxing day, which is usually the best time to shop for a present, which I did the first birthday I celebrated with him, a CK perfume gift set. For the next birthday, I sent him a birthday package all the way to Malaysia with his favourite things-blades for Gillette fusion shaver, Starbuck’s ground coffee, an H&M smart casual grey shirt, which I picked out. Now that we’re married, there would be some pressure on me to give an even better birthday present. It’s not hard to be honest, just ask him what he wants (because the list will be endless).
What did he want this year for his birthday? A huge mechanical toy, which I will never understand but hey if it makes him grin and smile and jump with joy, why not? I bet all fans alike would be thrilled to know that I got him a Zoids King Gojulas (that’s what it is called, don’t let me explain, I wouldn’t know). I sold my Nintendo DS console to get him this birthday present, bought it off Ebay from a local seller and he picked it up from KL. Boy of joy, he was smiling all the way showing me the massive box of toy (more like furniture box size) I was shocked myself looking at the size of it. That was probably why it was priced that much. I was glad he was psyched about it though it was all worth it!
Remember people, simple guide to getting someone a birthday present/anniversary/etc, always get things that say something about the person you’re getting it for, rather than picking out something you like for that person. Make it about them, something special once in a while, hehe once a year. Then it can be all about you again
